Innovation evaluation

Organizational innovation is not just about generating creative business ideas. It is also about reviewing and assessing ideas in order to identify those which are most likely to become successful innovations.

Unfortunately, the review processes, such as they are, that many organizations use result in rejecting the most potentially commercially viable ideas (false negatives) or perhaps worse, promoting ideas that are doomed to fail, while consuming considerable resources and effort (false positives). This challenge applies equally to venture capitalists evaluating potential investee companies.

Sylphium has considerable experience assessing innovations, including patent estates and other intellectual property rights and in advising enterprises on establishing evaluation metrics appropriate for a given business strategy and in consideration of the company’s core competencies and absorptive capacity.
